NSEAD Council and Forum. A place for you to make a difference?

NSEAD governance is vested in its Council, who meet three times a year to agree the priorities for and business of the Society as presented by the Finances & General Purposes Committee. We frequently have a call for nominations for members who wish to join our Council for a three-year term, and at our recent Council meeting on Saturday 29 September we said a heartfelt thank you and goodbye to three members concluding their service, Maria Keki representing the secondary phase, Ruth Robinson representing the FE phase and Norah Jardine representing Scotland.

The misrepresentation and bundling of arts subjects in DfE teacher recruitment

The Department for Education's Get into Teaching website has grouped or bundled art and design, drama and music as one subject 'Arts'. This guidance is ambiguous and unhelpful. The 'Training to teach arts' section itself has no mention whatsoever of the subjects this grouping refers to.

NSEAD's Special Interest Group for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) are currently evidence gathering in order to address disparities in the DfE's awarding of subject burseries. Updates on this work will be posted here and on our website.
