In brief...

Society update; budgets, war and peace

By the time you read this, Remembrance Sunday and its many related activities will have come and gone. But war and peace remain constant global companions in our lives. Observing the responses of our members and their children and young people to the issues raised is always very moving. Members may therefore be interested in the resource Make Art not War where NSEAD patron, and leading contemporary artist, Bob and Roberta Smith invites 16-18 year-old students nationwide to explore essential creative skills and to make a response to the provocation, what does peace mean to you?

The rescheduled iJADE Conference - Creating spaces: Inclusivity, ethics and participation in art and design education - will be hosted at Goldsmiths University of London in partnership with The Glasgow School of Art: 22 & 23 February 2019.

Obituary: Moira Jarvis (1949-2018) Painter, printmaker, teacher and education adviser

Members will be sad to hear of the death of Moira Jarvis. Moira was a longstanding and active member of the Society, supporting our work in many different ways. Thank you to Moira’s husband, Professor Robin Jarvis for this celebration of Moira’s life.  

Moira initially worked as a freelance textile designer in London and New York. After teaching in secondary schools for fifteen years she advised on art education for examining bodies and local councils. Throughout her life she was an active artist; drawing, painting and printmaking.

Our All-Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design in Education meeting takes place tomorrow, 13 November. The meeting will start at 3.45pm (not 4pm) as previously published and will be held in Committee Room 14.
