Getting out and about to meet members is an important part of our work. The Society has been busy doing that over the past two weeks.
If we needed proof, (and we don’t, but we need to make the case to others) that our subject can explore, expose and explain complex global issues, then joining groups of NSEAD members surrounded by and engaging with artwork tackling issues of racism, migration, war and revolution; the work of William Hogarth, Willian Kentridge, Alice Kettle and Francisco Goya to mention a few, at Southampton City Art Gallery and the Whitworth art gallery, Manchester, was an enhancing experience.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design Education continues to flourish, both in size and influence. We now have two Chairs, Sharon Hodgson MP and Tracy Brabin MP, and a full complement of representatives from both sides of the House of Commons and House of Lords.
The APPG's first meeting has taken place, 13 November 2019. This was the first meeting since its AGM in October.

Contemporary Art in the Heritage Experience is a two-day conference (29-30 July 2019), delivered as a critical part of 'Mapping Contemporary Art in the Heritage Experience’.
The conference will focus on the key themes of Creation and Encounters and the organisers invite papers, presentations and ‘visual or audio formats’ (such as posters and short films) from artists, curators, heritage professionals, academics, researchers and research students.

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) is set to launch a call for Partnership Development Grants focused on building new research-industry partnerships between the UK and China in the creative industries.
It is anticipated that projects will explore areas including, but not limited to: the screen industries; theatre / performing arts; gaming; and creative design.

Leather Working - London
This is a new course led by leather worker and costume props maker Charlotte Riddington and Tamsin Hosking. The course is aimed at students who want to learn how to design and make leather goods.
Marbling - London
This will be a 'fast-paced course' led by paper marbler Lucy McGrath. Marbling lies somewhere between painting, printmaking and science – paints are floated onto a bath of thickened water and manipulated to make designs. Lucy is on a mission to modernise the craft, using a range of innovative techniques and materials.
Both workshops will run Monday 18 Feb until Friday 22 Feb
