Moving On

“…it can be beautiful,
it will be lovely,
it will be different.

You won’t be sitting on an NHS chair for lunch,
it will be nice
"it’ll make you feel,
slightly
transported into a different world.”

Service user interviewed as part of an evaluation by Professor Norma Daykin of the University of the West of England’s evaluation of Moving On, the largest project of its kind within the UK. Moving On provided “a unique but narrow window of opportunity to understand the impact of arts on health and environment.” The full report is due to be completed in February 2008. For more details on the project see www.willisnewson.co.uk/projects/

In another piece of work for Gloucestershire County Council of their Art-lift project an interim report also by Professor Norma Daykin has suggested that “participation in arts activity can offer real health and personal benefits, addressing some of the problems that can stem from chronic illness such as isolation, loss of self confidence and motivation as well as loss of social contact."  See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/gloucestershire/7123831.stm
