Willis Newson advises Macmillan Cancer Support Willis Newson has been appointed by Macmillan Cancer Support to help develop the organisation’s ‘Arts in Cancer Environments’ guidance and to devise a practical delivery framework for successfully integrating the arts. Macmillan recognises the value of the arts in healthcare and the role the arts can play in achieving its priorities. The aim of this piece of work is to ensure that the arts are integrated, from the outset, into Macmillan’s cancer environment building projects in order to improve the care, treatment and support of people affected by cancer.

Artists start work at Southmead Hospital Artists Kate Blee and Perry Roberts are working with architects Avanti and Design Buro to develop proposals for integrated artworks for the new Academic and Pathology buildings at Southmead Hospital for North Bristol NHS Trust. Their work – which will include glazing designs, super-graphics and large-scale mosaics – will be unveiled when the buildings open in Spring 2009.

Hospital Arts Week Willis Newson has been appointed by Arts Council England to research the feasibility of launching a National Arts in Hospitals Week to celebrate and raise awareness of the scale, diversity and quality of arts activity taking place in hospital settings across the UK. If you would like to find out more or get involved in this initiative, please email jane@willisnewson.co.uk
